<< BackNational Trial Team Wins Regional Championship
February 23, 2009 - Congratulations to the National Trial Team, which
has successfully defended its Region III championship title in the
National Trial Competition, held at the Criminal Justice Center in
Philadelphia, PA. With this victory, Temple Law has won the Region III
championship for twenty-one years straight.
In this weekend's
competition, Temple students defeated teams from Dickinson, Duquesne,
Penn, Rutgers-Newark, Seton Hall, Villanova, West Virginia,
Widener-Delaware, and Widener-Harrisburg. The winning team consisted
of Priya DeSouza '09 and Jeff Goodman '10. Mr. Goodman won additional
honors when he was awarded the John J. Scott Memorial Plaque as "Best
Advocate in the Final Round."
In the double bracketed
competition, a second team of Tanasha Bennett '10, Amanda Dougherty
'10, and Rahul Munshi '09 finished as regional semi-finalists after
being edged out by a team from Dickinson.
The teams are coached
by Alex Gosfield, Esq.'08 of Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick &
Raspanti, LLP; Elizabeth Lippy, Esq.'03 of Rubin, Glickman, Steinberg
& Gifford; and James Zoll, Esq.'06 of the Montgomery County
District Attorney's office.
The National Trial Team travels to
Texas on March 25, 2009, to compete for the National Trial Championship
against the twenty-four winners and runners up from the other twelve
regional contests. Temple teams have won the national championship
three times and finished second three times in the past fourteen years.
