SUMMARY:Student Public Interest Network (SPIN) Auction
DESCRIPTION:About SPIN

SPIN was formed in 1992 after a second-year Temple Law student had to turn down a summer public interest job because they were unable to pay him. Ever since, SPIN has sought to ensure that future students would not have to pass up opportunities to do such valuable work. SPIN has raised over $245,000 to fund grants for students to work in wide range of public interest jobs during the summer. SPIN raises funds through the efforts of Temple Law students in a series of events that culminate with an annual auction. This year, we are holding a week long online auction at the end of February and a live auction in March 4, 2010.

Last year the SPIN Auction raised over $13,000, which was used to support 22 law students who volunteered their time at public interest organizations including the American Civil Liberties Union, Community Legal Services, the Center for Constitutional Rights, Homeless Advocacy Project, Philadelphia Legal Assistance, numerous Public Defender and Prosecutor’s offices, Women Against Abuse, State and Federal Judges, and many other organizations that could not afford to pay law students to assist them. SPIN grants make it possible for them to benefit from Temple Law students’ excellent training, skills and dedication over the course of the summer.

How You Can Help

Donations to the auction come from local businesses, alumni, faculty, and students. Without the generosity of Philadelphia-area businesses and individuals, the grant process would not be possible. Past auction items include gift certificates, dinners, museum memberships, artwork, and theater and sports tickets.

In gratitude for your donation to SPIN, we will include your name on our online auction website and at the live auction. Your name will be viewed by hundreds of auction bidders, including students, practicing attorneys, and other local professionals. Organizations or individuals who give donations valued at $500.00 or more will be recognized as official sponsors of the live auction. These organizations will receive additional recognition on all SPIN auction materials.

Please click here if you are interested in donating to the auction (all submissions must be received by February 1st) or make a direct contribution in support of SPIN. The SPIN Executive Committee reserves the discretion to accept or deny any auction donation. Feel free to contact SPIN with any questions by emailing templespin@gmail.com. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
